Welcome
My inspiration for art springs from my passion for nature in particular Trees, as I believe their roll in the biodiversity of life is fundamental to all living creatures including us.The work I produce aims to recollect my life time experiences, starting as a young boy who had a fascination for nature. I remember examining things at close quarters, hence the need to individual paint leaves in great detail. Painting landscapes might be a more traditional approach, but for me leaves are a landscape albeit for the insect world.
Prospectively, for an artist, trees are often the most prominent, and permanent feature on a landscape painting, setting the scene and dictating the atmosphere. However for me they transcend to a more fundamental roll, functioning as a living organism which helps to give life to hundreds of other living creatures, as a home or food source, whilst acting as a converter of carbon into natures most natural resource wood. No man made machine can ever replace the tree.
I feely so strongly that my art extends to a more hands-on-approach, acting as I do, the Tree Warden for Angmering village, where I grow up, and where I like to help protect nature’s venerable parts.
I hope one day to find away to make it my way of earning a living and to achieve self-reliance, and be a one with nature, which ultimately is my goal in life.
My background is in Product Design, which I studied for five years back in the late 70s. The first year was a foundation course, which included photography and graphic design. I have only taken up photography again in the last five years. I was pleased to be awarded first place in the Wey & Arun Canal photo competition in 2004. This year the very same image has been chosen to cover the front page of their Wey-South Path booklet. This gives a maps and descriptions of all the Tow and Footpaths that follow the canal. When I started painting in 1999 my work had a strong environmental theme, depicting some very surreal images of mankind’s influence on the world. I exhibited these paintings in local Libraries to try and impress the need for change. Since then I have mellowed somewhat to paint natural objects like leaves, for which I have sold many.
To view more detail on any images in my galleries, simply click on it to enlarge and see the size and price. Each print is a limited edition of just 10 copies.
I also have a CD of more images to display on a PC as screen savers, they help to promote good health, as green is the best colour for your eyes. Leaves therefore make an ideal subject to view.
The most view image for last week is shown on this page.
